300 is a 2007 movie based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller which is a fiction that tells story the Battle of Thermoplyae. The cause of this battle was due to Xerxes, The Persian Ruler who had in that era taken over a number of Hellenic States invaded Sparta and left them with two options, for King Leonidas to sacrifice himself for the greater good of Sparta or to watch Sparta burn to the ground
King Leonidas did not accept this news and he killed the messenger who brought the news who is one of the slave of Xerses. The Battle of Thermoplyae was a battle between an alliance of Greek- city states led by Spartans and Persian Empire ruled by Xeres, the battle was said to occur in August or September 480BC at the pass of Thermoplyae(The “Hot gates”).
The battle which lasted for three days in which the 300 Spartans, 700 Thespians and other slave soldiers were able to defeat over 100.000 of soldiers from the Persian empire however a traitor among them seeks his revenge and soon the soldiers meet their doom.
Basically this movie isn’t for anyone since this movie is adapted from the graphic novel there is a certain style to it. Every single shot is intended to be a work of art, the colors and characters was given so much detail and was so specific. During the action scenes there are time “slow motion” where you can see in detail the wounds, the blood splatter without it being too sadistic or gore.
This specific scene was simple but you could feel the passion and love. The performance by Gerard Butler was spectacular I think that he should do more movies like this instead the boring romantic comedies he has so much potential. Lena Heady was also great as the Queen who loved her husband and fought for him to the very end. This movie has everything action, romance, history.
One of the best graphic novel adaptation to the movie!
