Dracula Dead and Loving It (CLASSIC!) (L)

Talk about Dracula, don’t they just make you tired with all of that drama? Well not to worry because this movie actually that won’t bore you. One of them is Dracula Dead and Loving it the movie was released in 1995 and directed by Mel Brooks, a comedic director who brought you such films as Young Frankenstein (1974), Life Stinks (1991) and Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993).

The movie stars Leslie Nielsen, the iconic comedic actor who starred in many funny movies including Spy Hard, Mr. Magoo and Naked Gun. The movie itself is based on the legendary novel Dracula by Bram Stoker and some of the films it has inspired. In respect to the plot and characters the film is inspired by the classic Dracula starring Bela Lugosi it also spoofed the most recent adaptation of Dracula, titled Bram Stoker’s Dracula(1992).

The Plot is set in the year 1983 where a traveler named Thomas Renfield on a journey from London to Transylvania to meet an important client his destination is named “Castle Dracula”. As he nears his destination his coach driver refuses to take him any further at last he continues with his journey on foot.

Finally he reaches his destination and meets a man named Count Dracula who of course is a vampire, Dracula then sign agreement paper to purchase of Carfax Abbey in England. However he wakes up to the sight if two vampire brides seducing him, they were about to finish him off when Dracula appears and orders them out of the room. With this opportunity Dracula also casts a hypnotic spell on Reinfield making him his slave.

The duo soon begin with their journey to England where Dracula visits an Opera house and sets his eyes on a beautiful girl named Mina. Crazed for his love for Mina he tries everything possible to make Mina his vampire bride but with the arrival of famous Dr Van Helsing will he succeed? find out soon because i don't want to spoil the rest ;)

The story I think is quite refreshing I grew up watching Leslie Nielsen and think that he is the most iconic comedic figure around he knows how to push your laughing buttons and besides this spoof movie is better than any spoof movies today that just randomly poke at pop culture references, I’m not saying the movie of this plot was good it can be silly at times but it’s way better than spoof movies today that just have random cameos from celebrities.

Leslie Nielsen stole the show and Peter Macnicol as Reinfeild was also quite entertaining. One of the funniest scenes is when Dracula hypnotized both Mina and Essie at the same time you can’t help but laugh at his ridiculous attempt for true love. I recommend for movie fans to watch this movie because it is classic & ridiculously funny!
